Wedding with Red Flowers at a Private Home in Houston, Tx

March brought a highly anticipated day for me and this striking bride. She chose to host her wedding at her childhood home in Houston, TX, a decision that seemed to have a chain reaction of meaningful experiences. This Texas wedding turned me into a believer of private residence weddings, even if one’s home is not a sprawling estate that all of the venue developers are trying to emulate.

I was thrilled with the bold color palette that CJ desired for her flowers. She wanted a range of reds. I ended up incorporated pinks, fuchsias and even a touch of chartreuse for greater depth and visual interest. She offered the vision and I produced the details, making this wedding a truly a collaborative project. She asked for “something different”, then let me dream with her until the specifics bloomed through her parents' house.

My top three favorite aspects of this wedding were the floral installation on the living room wall, the fact that this Saturday for these two Texans was also Texas Independence Day (yes, some of us celebrate that here), and CJ’s dress which, as a dress designer, she designed and created for herself.

CJ and Kevin truly made this wedding their own. They kept the traditional wedding details that they loved, leaned into the aspects that were the most important to them, and let go entirely of wedding protocols that didn’t matter to them. It was exactly how they wanted it which I love and respect.
